Pour lui Dvorak \u00e9tait vraiment un tr\u00e8s grand compositeur, universellement reconnu, \u00e0 l\u2019exception notable de la France. Istomin s\u2019amusait beaucoup \u00e0 raconter l\u2019anecdote de Casals refusant de jouer le Concerto pour violoncelle de Dvorak, car le chef d\u2019orchestre, Gabriel Piern\u00e9, m\u00e9prisait cette musique, estimant que c\u2019\u00e9tait \u00ab\u00a0de la cochonnerie\u00a0\u00bb. Et Debussy avait approuv\u00e9 Piern\u00e9\u00a0! Chaque fois qu\u2019Istomin en avait l\u2019occasion, il rappelait le r\u00f4le important que Dvorak avait jou\u00e9 dans le d\u00e9veloppement de la vie musicale am\u00e9ricaine. Il avait form\u00e9 de nombreux \u00e9l\u00e8ves et contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00e9duquer le public. Il avait aussi compos\u00e9 pendant les trois ann\u00e9es de son s\u00e9jour en Am\u00e9rique une douzaine d\u2019\u0153uvres importantes, dont certaines ont puis\u00e9 leur inspiration dans la musique populaire am\u00e9ricaine. Istomin estimait que le \u00ab\u00a0Nouveau Monde\u00a0\u00bb devait \u00e0 la fois en \u00eatre fier et reconnaissant.<br \/>\nIstomin regrettait que le <em>Concerto pour piano<\/em> de Dvorak soit loin d\u2019\u00eatre aussi r\u00e9ussi que son <em>Concerto pour violon<\/em> et, bien s\u00fbr, que son <em>Concerto pour violoncelle<\/em>.
